Floorball or Unihockey?
It's the same sport! Floorball is derived from ice hockey, played indoors without skates, and is also known in Switzerland as 'Unihockey'. Using a stick, players must shoot a plastic ball into the opponent's goal, defended by a goalkeeper.
Two teams compete to score as many goals as possible. The boards surrounding the pitch ensure fast-paced play with no stoppages. Attackers can also surprise the goalkeeper by going behind the goal, just like in ice hockey!
Each team rotates lines of five outfield players and a goalkeeper to play an intense and dynamic sport. A team generally has around a dozen players, or even more, giving the coach many tactical options and players many opportunities to take to the pitch. A 3-on-3 version can also be played on a smaller pitch.

Floorball, a global sport
Floorball appeared in Scandinavia in the 1970s and quickly gained popularity. It is now played in many countries, particularly in Europe and Asia. Alongside Sweden and Finland, Switzerland and the Czech Republic make up the world's top four.
The different nations are united under the International Floorball Federation (IFF), which regularly organises international competitions bringing together amateur and professional players. The next World Championships will take place in Finland at the end of 2026 for men and at the end of 2027 for women.

Floorball in Belgium
In Belgium, several clubs have been established in different regions of the country. In Flanders many clubs are present between Brussels and the coast while in Wallonia, there is at least one club in each province. The sport continues to grow, with new clubs joining the Belgian Floorball Federation (BFF), such as the FBC Ronse or Wavre Unihockey Kangourous.
In Belgium, there is floorball for everyone, both at recreational level and in competition. Official championships are organised by the BFF in different age categories (from U10 upwards), with mixed championships and a dedicated women's division.
Belgium is also represented internationally by men's and women's national teams, at adult and U19 level.
